About Unit 2
Established in 2001 by the Fine Art Department (based within Sir John Cass
Department of Art Media & Design) at London Metropolitan University, Unit
2 is a dedicated contemporary visual art
gallery. Housed
within the
Art and Design campus situated in the
heart of the busy and vibrant East End area directly opposite the Whitechapel
Art Gallery.
As part of its commitment to providing a platform for practicing artists, in
April 2004, Sir John Cass Department of Art Media & Design appointed Unit
2's first Curator, Richard Hylton. In February 2005, following a period of
refurbishment the gallery was re-launched and now offers a varied programme
of activity including solo shows, group exhibitions, collaborative projects,
talks and live events.
