FLATSHARE
Eva Berendes, Thoresten Jones, Daniela Klein, Sigrid Stabel and Wolfgang Stehle
27 February – 21 March 2003
A flatshare is an architectural and social space dominated by the relationship of sharing and dividing. In a flatshare our personalities are under scrutiny – friends and strangers, flatmates observe our weird habits, our obsessive and eccentric traits, while we are forced to tolerate their sloppiness and loudness, which infringes on our personal space.
Five emerging German artists Wolfgang Stehle, Sigrid Stabel, Daniela Klein, Thorsten Jones and Eva Berendes wish to apply this concept to the situation created in a group exhibition by working together and in isolation. The artists will interfere with each other's work – cluttering, disturbing and competing with one another. Other aspects will also be investigated and displayed – humour, support and sharing.
The selection of video works, objects, photos and 3D constructions will not only reflect human relationships but also refer to the particular mixture of pragmatism and warmth created in a flatshare. This environment will create a tension by opposing to the cold stark interior of the gallery.
